Project: 800 lb vending machine on the porch
Golden was showing interest in vending machines, gumball machines, and the like. M.T. found a vending machine for sale for $200 in Niles, MI. The whole gang took The Maxi (and its trailer called Itsy Bitsy). M.T. had their doubts, but Golden held strong. It sat in Itsy Bitsy for a while. Our beloved friend, Andy Caban of Indigo Gardens and Design, brought his forklift thing over and, with the help of our neighbors David and Jack, got it into place on the porch. The ideas is to fill it with snacks at cost because there’s not a good place to get food in the neighborhood (kids are already biking up to the house!). We also want to commission artists to make things for sale in the vending machine that are already wrapped for quick, awesome, special gifts!
Project: public sculpture by kids from neighborhood
5 year old Ocean led M.T. to a community event happening at the Kingdom Life Cathedral Church’s playground. Talking to the folks there led to an invitation to lead art-making with the kids in their summer day camp. Right off the bat, we talked about making public sculpture on the empty lots in the neighborhood owned by the church. There is an incredible park from M.T.’s childhood, Kids Kingdom, that is being torn down and we need help securing these materials!
